Introduction to Registered Family Child Care Part 1 (IRFCC)

ODHS Child Care Provider Orientation, Part 1
Welcome to the ODHS Child Care Provider Orientation, Part 1. This orientation is one of two required trainings that will let you know what is required of you to become an Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) License Exempt Child Care Provider, or if you are going to be accepting ODHS subsidies for qualified family

Safety Set Courses
Required for all program staff and child care providers.

Introduction to Child Care Health and Safety (ICCHS)
This course is designed to provide basic health and safety training for child care providers in Oregon. Staff working with children at licensed facilities are required to complete this course. Click the title, Introduction to Child Care Health and Safety, to start the course.
CKC: 2 hours in Health, Safety and Nutrition.
Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect (RRCAN)
Child care and education providers are among those persons who are mandatory reporters of suspected incidents of child abuse and neglect in the state of Oregon. Participants will learn the process for reporting incidents of child abuse or neglect.
CKC: 2 hours in Health, Safety and Nutrition.
Safe Sleep for Oregon's Infants (SS)
The goal of this training is to provide Early Educators with an opportunity to learn about safe sleep practices and to identify and prevent risks to the babies in your child care program.
CKC: 1 hour in Health, Safety and Nutrition.
Prevention is Better Than Treatment (PBTT)
How to prevent, reduce, and respond to childhood illnesses and food allergies in child care settings.
CKC: 1 hour in Health, Safety and Nutrition.
Foundations for Learning
On September 30, 2022, a new required training called “Foundations for Learning” will be available. This is a free, 2 hour training on child development. This training will be available on the “Learning with OCCD” website in English and Spanish.

Food Handler Certification
Required For: All staff in licensed facilities who prepare or serve food must have and maintain a current food handler certification. This includes:
Cooks and kitchen staff who handle food;
Staff who serve meals from a communal source or put away leftovers; and
Staff caring for infants who prepare bottles or serve food.
Format: Online, Free through the link below

Time Needed: About 2 hours
The Training Covers:
How food can cause illness or allergic reactions.
Preventing contamination of food and food-contact surfaces with the hands and body.
Identifying which symptoms or illnesses must be reported to a manager.
Using time and temperature control throughout the flow of making, serving, and storing food.
Maintain a clean environment for food preparation and service.

Central Background Registry (CBR)
Who Needs to Enroll?

A person who wishes to seek employment as:
A child care provider who is required to be enrolled in the Central Background Registry by any state agency.
The owner, operator, employee or volunteer of a certified, registered or otherwise regulated child care facility that is subject to the jurisdiction of the Early Learning Division Office of Child Care.
The operator or an employee of an Oregon pre-kindergarten program or parent-as-teacher program under ORS 329.170 to 329.200.
The operator or an employee of a federal Head Start Program regulated by the United States Department of Health and Human Services.
A contractor or an employee of the contractor who provides early childhood special education or early intervention services pursuant to ORS 343.455 to 343.534.
An individual in any of the above facilities or programs who may have unsupervised contact with children.
An employee of the Early Learning Division Office of Child Care.
A designated employee or volunteer of a Metro service district.
